Version 1.1
SaMid allows users to filter mail using SpamAssassin on Windows 98/NT/2000/XP systems.
Downloading email is separated into three steps :
1) Downloading email from remote server into local storage
2) Running SpamAssassin on each email, saving the result into a local (filtered) storage.
3) Reading the filtered email in a local POP3 client, from the local (filtered) storage.
SaMid calls the batch file "spamassassin.bat", which should be
created as part of the installation of SpamAssassin on a Win32 system.
You should follow the instructions to install SpamAssassin on a Win32 system
from this page :
http://www.openhandhome.com/howtosa.html
Unpacking the SaMid archive should result in a folder contatining two "exe" files and two sub-folders, "incoming" and "processed". This is the structure SaMid needs.
1) Edit SaMid.ini in any text-editor (such as Notepad) :
First line – remote server address
Second line – remote server port
Third line – your username
Fourth line – your password
2) Direct your email client to connect to localhost:110;
Username does not matter, password is "a" (without the
quotes)
Running SaMid.exe will download email from remote server; when finished, it will run SpamAssassin on each email.
SaMidProxy.exe will listen on localhost:110; you should configure your email client to read email from localhost.
SaMid Proxy should be shutdown as soon as your email client has finished
reading data from it, because it poses a great security risk by allowing anyone
in the Internet to connect to your computer and download your email (unless you
do it before him).
